There are THREE FUNDAMENTAL aspects to deciding on which hearing aids may be suitable:
- Diagnostic Hearing Assessment results.
- Specific circumstances of communication difficulty.
- Available Subsidies and Budget of the hearing aid user.
NO DECISION ON HEARING AIDS can be made, without a thorough exploration of ALL THREE aspects.
Hearing Aids come in many different shapes and sizes:
- BTE means Behind-The-Ear, usually with an earmould to bring the sound into the ear.
- RITE means Receiver-In-The-Ear. Similar to a BTE, but with only a wire carrying the signal to the ear.
- RIC means Receiver-In-Canal. Another term for RITE.
- ITE means In-The-Ear. This is a one-piece hearing aid, with all the components sitting in the ear.
- ITC means In-The-Canal. Similar to ITE, but smaller in size.
- CIC means Completely-In-Canal. Similar to ITC, but even smaller and more discrete.
- IIC means Invisible-In-Canal, and is even smaller than a CIC hearing aid.
There are pros and cons for each different size and shape….
