Sam Veale

"I grew up in Palmerston North, the second youngest of six boys (phew!).  When I left school, I spent a year at Massey University studying Science, but then changed tack and completed a Bachelor of Music at Victoria University of Wellington.  This was a very special time, during which I met my beautiful wife, Jennifer Moss.  I was a French Horn player, and she was an opera singer."

"After 16 years as a professional musician in Sydney and Auckland, I developed not only a hearing loss, but also a personal interest in the long term effects of noise in the workplace.  I also became very interested in finding somewhere quiet to work...  This led me to study for my Master of Audiology degree at The University of Auckland, in 2002.  Thanks to Peter Thorne and Sharon Mein-Smith for accepting me into the course.  Following the start of my audiological career in 2004 at Palmerston North Hospital, I also completed a Doctor of Audiology degree from Salus University (US) in the 3 years from 2007-2009.”

"I’ve previously worked at Palmerston North Hospital, and other private providers in Palmerston North, Whanganui, Masterton, and Levin.  I founded Heartland Hearing & Balance (then Heartland Audiology) in 2014.  As well as Heartland Hearing & Balance, I also see babies and young people for Auditory Brainstem Response testing (ABR), at Palmerston North and Whanganui Hospitals.”

"In my other lives I am a keen fisherman/scuba diver, a Private Pilot Licence holder, and also hold a black belt in ITF Taekwon-Do.  I live in Tangimoana with my wife, 2 dogs (Sophie and Bonnie), and am very proud of my two adult children (always my little darlings).  My wife, Jennifer Moss, is one of Palmerston North’s creative giants, and we make music together in several different groups."
